Golden State Warriors Unveil $1 Billion Mission Bay Arena Project

Two years ago, the Golden State Warriors announced plans to move from Oakland to San Francisco. Despite many setbacks, the Warriors maintain that they want a new arena fully functional by the 2018 basketball season. Now, for the first time, the Warriors sketched out the team’s vision for their $1 billion expansion into our great city.
Getting to this point though has not been easy. They abandoned their original plans for a waterfront arena on the crumbling Pier 30-32 for a 12-acre site between 3rd, South, and 16th Street.
Arguably much better for city congestion, this arena will include two 160-foot office buildings, between 55,000 and 90,000 square feet of retail space, and public plazas. Apparently, the main plaza would be comparable in size to San Francisco’s own Union Square. A detailed design has yet to be revealed, but word is that they won’t release anything until next fall.
